Principal Electrical Design Engineer

Our client, a prominent leader in electrical engineering and power solutions, is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join their esteemed team. This is a critical on-site role, demanding hands-on expertise and a deep understanding of complex electrical systems. You will be at the forefront of designing, developing, and implementing innovative electrical systems for a variety of high-profile projects. Your responsibilities will encompass everything from conceptual design to final commissioning, ensuring the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities: Lead the design and development of complex electrical systems for industrial, commercial, and utility projects. Perform detailed electrical calculations, including load flow, short circuit, and protection coordination studies. Develop single-line diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams using CAD software. Specify electrical equipment, including switchgear, transformers, motors, generators, and lighting systems. Ensure designs comply with all relevant national and international electrical codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., SANS, NEC, IEC). Conduct design reviews, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies. Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers, clients, and contractors. Oversee the testing, commissioning, and energization of electrical systems. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior electrical engineers. Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical design and operational issues. Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices in electrical engineering. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, with extensive professional experience in electrical design. Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration is highly desirable. Proven expertise in power system analysis, protection schemes, and a strong understanding of relevant codes and standards are essential. Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., ETAP, AutoCAD Electrical) and excellent problem-solving abilities are required. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills are crucial for effective team collaboration and client interaction.
