Principal Engineer / Architect - Electrical

Role Overview: You are being recruited as a Principal Engineer / Architect by Kimbal Technologies to take ownership of the electrical architecture of their BESS product offering, managing everything from battery terminals to grid interconnection. Your primary responsibilities will involve optimizing round-trip efficiency, power quality, and cost within the evolving Indian energy storage market while ensuring code compliance, regulatory approvals, and safety. This role is pivotal within a new division that operates with the agility of a startup and the support of an established company, offering you the chance to collaborate with a small team of industry experts and witness your work shaping up in the field.

Key Responsibilities: - Own the BESS power architecture, covering aspects from battery terminals to grid interconnection, such as: - Designing DC systems including string/rack configuration, control, and protection - Overseeing power conversion systems (PCS) - Managing MV and LV transformers and switchgear - Ensuring grid interconnection - Create detailed technical specifications for each power subsystem. - Lead vendor evaluation, technical due diligence, and selection; maintaining technical relationships with key suppliers. - Ensure adherence to grid codes and electrical standards, focusing primarily on Indian requirements. - Enhance round-trip efficiency (RTE) throughout the power conversion chain. - Conduct or supervise power quality analyses. - Define grid support function requirements. - Collaborate with controls engineering on PCS control interfaces and dispatch requirements. - Establish validation and acceptance test requirements for all power subsystems. - Oversee electrical installation and commissioning of pilot BESS deployments at Kimbal facilities. - Stay updated on global energy storage technology and regulatory trends.

Qualification Required: - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent proficiency. - Hands-on experience in designing large-scale power conversion systems and grid interconnection for energy storage or renewable energy systems. - Profound understanding of grid-tied PCS/inverter technology and HV/MV/LV electrical system design. - Experience in power systems protection design, including protection coordination and fault analysis. - Knowledge of grid interconnection standards and compliance processes for utility-scale projects. - Experience in commissioning large-scale power systems. - Strong emotional intelligence for effective collaboration within a high-performance team. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - High standards for quality and attention to detail in work output.
