Principal Engineer, Bridges

Requirements

• Bridge analysis, design, and rehabilitation, including preparation of design calculations and construction contract documents.
• Knowledge of NJDOT design standards, specifications, standard construction details, and Local Aid/grant processes.
• Familiarity with construction administration and project management practices.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in engineering design practices and relevant software tools.
• Driver's license valid in NJ.

Responsibilities

• Supervising and performing professional engineering work related to the planning, design, inspection, and construction of bridge projects.
• Oversight of consultants, coordination of construction activities, and administration of state and federally funded projects.
• Reviews and approves engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents for bridge projects.
• Serves as project manager for the design and construction of capital improvement projects.
• Coordinates and oversees the work of consultants, contractors, and County inspection staff.
• Administers grants, including application, compliance, and reporting requirements.
• Performs engineering calculations and prepares technical reports and correspondence.
• Conducts site visits during design and construction phases to monitor progress and resolve issues.
• Coordinates with utility companies and other public/private stakeholders.
• Ensures projects are completed in compliance with applicable codes, standards, schedules, and budgets.
