About the Role

As a Principal Engineer, you will play a vital role in shaping the long-term architecture, scalability, and reliability of our Tableflow project and the overall Confluent platform. You will enhance key components crucial for multi-tenancy and performance, alongside owning significant technical domains and driving critical initiatives.

What You Will Do

• Technical Strategy & Leadership: Define and spearhead the long-term technical strategy for Tableflow's systems, promoting continuous innovation.
• Metadata Architecture & Lifecycle Management: Develop a high-performance metadata management system, ensuring low latency updates and optimized query planning.
• Storage Engine Innovation: Create and implement innovative strategies for table schematization and materialization at scale.
• Platform Engineering: Build and maintain infrastructure for background computational tasks, optimized for scalability and reliability.
• Architectural Excellence: Advocate for engineering standards, architectural patterns, and technical frameworks across the organization.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with executives, product management, and engineering teams to align technical and business objectives.
• Mentorship & Culture: Guide and mentor senior engineers, cultivating a culture of excellence and contribution.
• Open-Source & External Representation: Contribute to relevant open-source projects and represent Confluent at technical events.
