Role

Principal Engineer, Embedded Systems – Care Communications business, Raleigh, NC. The role supports embedded software development activities within the research and development team, focusing on engineering support and firmware development for new product development, performing engineering analysis, building, and verification to requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in requirement analysis, detailed development, and verification activities for products or solutions.
  • Make difficult build trade‑offs and decisions about features, schedule, quality, and cost.
  • Seek efficient technology solutions to problems and apply appropriate methodologies to identify issues and concerns.
  • Have primary accountability for major elements of projects, determine all required tasks, and ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Build, develop, and test to validate effects and consequences of builds, processes, or product improvements across projects and products.
  • Apply principles of SDLC and methodologies such as Lean/Agile/XP, CI, Software and Product Security, Scalability, Documentation Practices, refactoring, and testing techniques.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities by identifying and appropriately advancing process and product quality gaps.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical concentration and 5+ years of experience.
  • Expertise in software development in C/C++ for microcontrollers/microprocessors.
  • Strong object‑oriented development and build knowledge and experience.
  • Broad understanding of technology, software development principles, and standard methodologies.
  • Proficiency with development and Continuous Integration tools such as Visual Studio/Eclipse, Git, BitBucket, Jira.
  • Comfort working with Linux and Embedded Linux.
  • Experience and knowledge of standard embedded technology and protocols (RS485, UART, SPI, etc.).
  • Familiarity with embedded programmers and debuggers (JTAG/SWD).
  • Ability to perform hardware debug using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Effective documentation skills for software architecture and development.
  • Proven success in delivering results on technical challenges.

Compensation

  • Estimated base salary: $112,000 – $154,000 annually (range may vary based on location, skills, experience, and other factors).
  • Position may be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
