Our client, a renowned civil engineering consultancy, is looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead critical projects from their office in Zaria, Kaduna, NG. This senior position requires extensive experience in geotechnical investigations, foundation design, and earthworks analysis. You will play a pivotal role in managing projects, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring the successful delivery of complex infrastructure and building developments. The role involves a hybrid work model, combining office‑based responsibilities with site visits and potential for remote collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage geotechnical investigations, including site reconnaissance, borehole drilling, in‑situ testing, and laboratory analysis.
- Develop detailed geotechnical designs for foundations (shallow and deep), retaining walls, slopes, and other earth structures.
- Perform advanced numerical modeling and analysis for complex geotechnical problems.
- Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, specifications, and design drawings.
- Provide expert geotechnical advice and consultation to clients, project managers, and design teams.
- Lead the technical review of geotechnical designs and proposals.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources effectively to ensure timely and cost‑effective project delivery.
- Mentor and guide junior geotechnical engineers and technicians, fostering their professional development.
- Ensure compliance with national and international geotechnical engineering standards and best practices.
- Conduct site inspections and supervise construction activities related to geotechnical works.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to business development efforts, including proposal writing and client engagement.
Qualifications
- A Master's or Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, with a proven track record of leading complex projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent registration is highly desirable.
- Expertise in soil mechanics, rock mechanics, foundation engineering, and ground improvement techniques.
- Proficiency in geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, FLAC, or similar.
- Strong understanding of relevant building codes and standards (e.g., Eurocode, relevant Nigerian standards).
- Excellent project management, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to conduct fieldwork, including potential travel to various project sites.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage client relationships.
- Experience in report writing, presentation, and technical review.
