Our client is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Principal Industrial Engineer to lead significant improvements in manufacturing and operational efficiency in Enugu, Enugu, NG. This senior role is responsible for driving innovation in process design, optimization, and implementation across complex industrial settings. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of industrial engineering principles, lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and advanced simulation techniques. You will play a critical role in analyzing existing systems, identifying bottlenecks, and designing robust solutions that enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve product quality. This is a leadership position requiring strong analytical, problem‑solving, and project management skills, with a focus on delivering tangible results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced industrial engineering solutions for manufacturing and production processes.
  • Conduct in‑depth analyses of current operations to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement using methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen.
  • Develop and implement strategies for process optimization, workflow enhancement, and resource allocation.
  • Utilize advanced modeling and simulation tools to test and validate proposed process improvements before implementation.
  • Develop and maintain detailed process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including production, quality control, and R&D, to ensure seamless integration of engineered solutions.
  • Mentor and guide junior industrial engineers and technical staff.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies, equipment, and methodologies to enhance operational performance.
  • Lead major capital projects related to facility design, equipment upgrades, and process automation.
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and environmental standards in all engineered solutions.
  • Develop business cases and cost‑benefit analyses for proposed engineering projects.
  • Stay current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes.
  • Measure and report on the impact of implemented solutions on key performance indicators such as throughput, cost, quality, and safety.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline (required).
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certification (highly desirable).
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in industrial engineering, with a significant portion in a senior or principal role, preferably within manufacturing or heavy industry.
  • Expertise in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma (Black Belt certification preferred), and statistical process control (SPC).
  • Proven experience with process simulation software (e.g., Arena, AnyLogic) and CAD software.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent leadership, project management, and team collaboration abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large‑scale engineering projects from conception to completion.
  • Experience in process automation and robotics (strong asset).
  • Knowledge of relevant Nigerian industrial standards and regulations (beneficial).
