Principal Mechanical Design Engineer - Rotating Equipment

Our client, a world-renowned engineering firm specializing in heavy industrial machinery, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead critical projects from **Kaduna, Kaduna, NG**. This senior position focuses on the design and development of complex rotating equipment, such as turbines, pumps, and compressors. You will be at the forefront of innovation, applying advanced engineering principles to create robust and efficient solutions for demanding applications.

Key Responsibilities: Lead the conceptualization, design, and detailed engineering of large-scale rotating equipment, ensuring performance, reliability, and manufacturability. Develop detailed mechanical designs, including 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs), utilizing advanced design software. Perform complex stress analysis, thermal analysis, vibration analysis, and fluid dynamics simulations using FEA and CFD tools. Select appropriate materials of construction and ensure their suitability for operating conditions and longevity. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and project managers, to ensure seamless project execution. Oversee the validation and testing of prototype equipment, analyzing results and implementing necessary design modifications. Ensure designs comply with relevant industry codes, standards (e.g., API, ASME), and regulatory requirements. Mentor and guide junior mechanical engineers, providing technical expertise and fostering a culture of design excellence. Troubleshoot design-related issues encountered during manufacturing, installation, or operation. Contribute to the development of intellectual property and stay abreast of emerging technologies in rotating machinery design. Prepare technical documentation, design reports, and presentations for internal reviews and client submissions. Qualifications: Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. A minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in mechanical design, with a strong specialization in rotating equipment (turbines, compressors, pumps, etc.). Expertise in using advanced CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor) and CAE tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL) for analysis and simulation. Deep understanding of mechanical design principles, including statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science. Extensive knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards. Proven ability to lead complex design projects from concept to production. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions. Experience with manufacturing processes and techniques is essential.
