Principal Mechanical Engineer

Our client is a well-established engineering organisation delivering complex projects within the utilities and infrastructure sector.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, specification, and delivery of mechanical engineering solutions across projects and proposals.
• Manage and supervise Mechanical Engineers, ensuring high-quality output and adherence to project timelines.
• Produce and review technical documentation including specifications, calculations, drawings, and reports.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and clients to ensure efficient project delivery.
• Oversee procurement activities including requisitions, technical evaluations, and supplier engagement.
• Drive the development and implementation of company-wide engineering standards, procedures, and quality assurance processes.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and support to engineering teams, including training and development.
• Participate in site visits, testing, commissioning, and client meetings as required.

Requirements

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience within the water/wastewater sector or a similar engineering environment.
• Strong technical knowledge with the ability to lead design and engineering activities.
• Experience managing teams and delivering projects within strict deadlines.
• Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IMechE) and/or working towards Chartered status is desirable.
• Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and familiarity with engineering systems.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
