Introduction
Brunel is currently seeking a Principal Process Engineer to support our mining client on a large-scale greenfield copper development in British Columbia.
As a Principal Process Engineer, you will be responsible for providing specialist-level technical leadership in mineral processing across the feasibility stage and beyond. You will play a key role in the development and refinement of process design from ore to copper concentrate, including the integration of tailings and water management systems.
This is a senior, hands‑on technical role suited for an engineer with deep expertise in copper processing and a strong background in feasibility‑stage project development. You will contribute to long‑term process design decisions and help guide the technical direction of a complex, multi‑year study, working closely with multidisciplinary teams, external consultants, and project leaders.
Responsibilities
- Act as a subject‑matter expert in mineral processing, providing technical leadership across process design scopes.
- Support the development and refinement of process flowsheets from ore to copper concentrate.
- Provide technical oversight for tailings and water management integration into overall process design.
- Review and challenge process assumptions, test work inputs, and design criteria to ensure technical robustness.
- Contribute process engineering expertise to Pre‑Feasibility and Feasibility Studies (PFS/FS).
- Collaborate with internal and external engineering teams to support design maturity and decision‑making.
- Support process‑related inputs to capital and operating cost development.
- Ensure process design aligns with project advancement objectives over a multi‑year feasibility timeline.
- Work closely with engineering disciplines (mechanical, infrastructure, environmental) to ensure integrated project outcomes.
- Interface with external consultants, laboratories, and engineering contractors as required.
- Communicate complex process information clearly to project leadership and non‑process stakeholders.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in mineral processing engineering, preferably within copper operations
- P.Eng. (Professional Engineer) designation or eligibility for registration
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Demonstrated experience in copper processing (ore to concentrate), tailings management, and water systems related to mineral processing
- Specialist‑level technical capability with the ability to work independently
- Experience supporting feasibility‑stage project development (PFS and/or FS)
- Strong understanding of the impact of process design decisions on capital and operating costs
- Comfortable working in a long‑term, study‑focused environment rather than short‑term project execution
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting large‑scale mining projects through extended study phases
- Background working with EPC/EPCM firms or owner‑side engineering teams
- Ability to act as a trusted technical advisor to project leadership
- Strong communication and cross‑disciplinary collaboration skills
