Principal Process Engineer, Petrochemicals

Our client, a leader in the oil and gas industry, is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Process Engineer to join their operational team. This role is critical to the continuous improvement and optimization of our petrochemical facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading complex process engineering projects, developing innovative solutions to enhance efficiency, safety, and sustainability, and providing expert technical guidance across the organization. This position requires a deep understanding of chemical engineering principles, advanced process simulation, and a proven ability to manage challenging projects from conception to completion. You will play a vital role in ensuring our operations meet the highest industry standards and contribute to our long-term success.

Key Responsibilities: Lead the design, development, and optimization of complex process systems within petrochemical facilities, ensuring adherence to safety and environmental regulations. Utilize advanced process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) to model, analyze, and improve process performance, yield, and energy efficiency. Develop and implement process improvement initiatives, including debottlenecking studies, technology evaluations, and root cause analysis for operational issues. Provide expert technical consultation and support to operations, maintenance, and project teams on process-related matters. Oversee the development of Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), equipment specifications, and operating procedures. Conduct feasibility studies and techno-economic evaluations for new projects and process modifications. Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements (e.g., API, ASME). Mentor junior process engineers, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing within the team. Lead hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies and other process safety reviews. Stay current with technological advancements in petrochemical processing and industry best practices. Collaborate with R&D teams on the scale-up of new processes and technologies. Troubleshoot complex operational problems, providing timely and effective engineering solutions. Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline. A Master's or Ph.D. is highly preferred. A minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in process engineering within the petrochemical or oil and gas industry. Extensive experience with process simulation software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, PRO/II) and data analysis tools. Deep understanding of unit operations, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and reaction engineering relevant to petrochemical processes. Proven experience in leading process design, optimization projects, and HAZOP studies. Knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., API, ASME, NFPA). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively. Experience in project management and a proven ability to manage multiple priorities. Professional Engineer (PE) registration or equivalent is a significant advantage.
