Private Cloud System Engineer

CGI

flexible Full-time Entry Level 2mo ago

About the role

About Us

Do you want to work on modern private and sovereign cloud platforms? Linux, middleware technologies, web servers like Apache2 or nginx, and basic network knowledge are part of your toolkit – and you want to develop yourself further, e.g., towards Kubernetes or Cloud-Native?

Then become part of our Cloud & DevOps Engineering team! We are looking for technology-open, eager-to-learn talents who want to build stable and secure private cloud environments and support customers on their digital journey – without you having to be a senior or Kubernetes expert already.

CGI is one of the TOP 5 IT & Consulting service providers worldwide. We are expanding our Cloud Architecture, Governance, and Security Center throughout Germany, and you can be part of it in the future. In our growing team, you will find flat hierarchies, close-to-practice leadership, and the opportunity to continuously expand your expertise in a dynamic and agile environment.

In addition to free hardware choice (Windows or MacBook) and an iPhone for private use, among other things, we offer profit sharing and a mentoring program for your ideal start at CGI. Flexible working is a matter of course, as are the open doors of your colleagues and the informal "Du" (you).

Do you want to become part of our global network of IT thought leaders? Then take your next sprint with us!

Your future duties and responsibilities

As part of an interdisciplinary Cloud Architecture team, you will take on important tasks within projects and services in close cooperation with your engineering colleagues and our customers.

In this role, you will design and implement private cloud ecosystems – whether IONOS, STACKIT, or VMware, no one can beat you in the private cloud world. With us, you won't become a PowerPoint architect – you will be responsible for both the conception and implementation of private cloud environments based on the defined requirements of our customers. From day 1, you will engage with DevOps & Application teams and build solutions based on the requirements of applications and users.

Your tasks include:

  • Building, operating, and further developing private/sovereign cloud environments (e.g., OpenStack, VMware, IONOS, STACKIT)
  • Integration and operation of middleware and web server components (Apache2, nginx, Tomcat or similar)
  • Working with Linux-based systems (configuration, hardening, troubleshooting)
  • Support in implementing CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins)
  • Automation using Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)
  • Monitoring & Logging (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK)
  • Basic network administration (firewalling, routing, DNS, TLS, reverse proxy)

Bonus (not a must)

  • Initial experience with Kubernetes or container technologies
  • Interest in developing towards container ecosystems or Cloud-Native
  • Willingness to undergo a security check according to SÜG

Some of the tasks spark your interest, but you haven't gained any experience in these areas yet? You will always be supported by your team and our Principal Architects in all your tasks. Let's design your development plan together with your mentors!

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

In addition to a passion for private cloud architectures, you have an IT degree or a comparable qualification and several years of professional experience with private or public cloud services and platforms.

Furthermore, you bring the following skills:

  • Initial to mid-level professional experience in operating or engineering IT infrastructures
  • Good knowledge of Linux system administration
  • Experience with web servers/middleware (Apache2, nginx)
  • Basic network knowledge (TCP/IP, VLAN, DNS, routing)
  • Openness to technology and willingness to learn
  • Professional communication skills in German

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience in private cloud stacks (OpenStack, VMware, IONOS, STACKIT)
  • Basics of containers/Kubernetes
  • Experience with IaC (Terraform, Ansible)
  • Monitoring/logging tools

WHAT WE OFFER

  • With us, you will find colleagues with whom collaboration is fun. We treat each other openly, use the informal "Du" (you) across all positions, and do not think in hierarchies or silos – we see ourselves as a multinational home port for cloud enthusiasts, not as a technical silo.
  • We actively promote exchange within the team – weekly brown bags and regular tech days, as well as deep dives and PoCs, are part of our spirit.
  • Your professional development and growth are important to us – CGI finances relevant training and further education measures.
