Process & Automation Engineer (m/w/d)
SOURCE GmbH
About the role
About Us
SOURCE combines the security of a 30-year-old established company with the dynamism and digitalization of a start-up. With around 60 employees and an annual turnover of approx. €30 million, we are one of the leading providers of promotional items and merchandise in the German-speaking countries – and we are growing: into new markets, new processes, new technologies. If you are looking for an environment where you can really make a difference and not get lost in corporate bureaucracy, then SOURCE is the right place for you.
Process & Automation Engineer (m/f/d)
Our processes are growing faster than our capacities – you will change that. You see a manual process and immediately think: This can be automated. You know when n8n is enough, when an API integration is needed, and when it's better to develop cleanly rather than quickly cobbling things together. You understand both the technical side and the business context behind it – and can translate both into functioning solutions. That's exactly what we need.
Your Mission:
As a Process & Automation Engineer, you will be the driving force behind the digitalization and automation of our internal workflows. You will analyze where time and resources are lost, develop solutions – from quick workflow automations to well-thought-out system integrations – and ensure that SOURCE becomes faster, smarter, and more scalable as a company. You will work directly with management and specialist departments and be responsible for the technical implementation from start to finish.
Your Tasks:
- Process Analysis & Automation: You analyze existing workflows in all departments, identify automation potential, and implement them with the appropriate tools – from simple workflow automations to complex, cross-system integrations.
- Workflow Tools & Low-Code: You build and operate automations with tools like n8n, assess when low-code is sufficient and when clean development is necessary – and make this decision consciously and with justification.
- API Integration & System Architecture: You are familiar with REST APIs and webhooks, know which software is responsible for what, and build clean and maintainable integrations between our existing systems (ERP, CRM, etc.).
- Custom Development (GCP): Where necessary, you develop yourself – or coordinate external developers with a clear technical vision. Experience with Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, or similar) is an advantage.
- AI & Prompt Engineering: You know how to embed LLMs meaningfully into processes: structuring data, building context, making outputs usable. No model training – but a deep understanding of what AI can do, where it helps, and where it is overestimated.
- Tool Strategy & Responsibility: You keep an overview of our tool landscape, identify redundancies and gaps, and make recommendations on which system should be used when and how.
- Documentation & Knowledge Transfer: You document what you build so that others can understand it – no black-box engineering, but sustainable solutions with a clear handover.
Your Profile:
- Technical Degree or Training: Completed degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, or a comparable IT qualification (e.g., Fachinformatiker Anwendungsentwicklung) – the technical background is crucial.
- Professional Experience: At least 5 years of practical experience in software development, system integration, or process automation – ideally in an agile environment with real business contact.
- Technical Craftsmanship: Confident use of APIs, webhooks, and database queries; experience in at least one programming language (Python, JavaScript, or similar); basic understanding of cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
- Workflow Automation: Practical experience with automation platforms like n8n or comparable tools – you know what they can do and where their limits are.
- Architectural Understanding: You think in systems, not in individual solutions. You understand data flows, responsibilities between tools, and know how to build solutions that are still maintainable in a year.
- AI Application Knowledge: You have practically integrated LLMs into processes – prompt design, context control, output processing. Not research, but pragmatic application.
- Languages: Very good German and fluent English – for technical communication with internal teams and external partners.
- Personality: Self-motivated, pragmatic, curious. You ask yourself with every process: Can this be faster? And then you make it faster.
What We Offer You:
- Real Design Freedom: You will build SOURCE's automation infrastructure from the ground up – no predefined processes, no corporate bureaucracy, direct line to management.
- Broad Technology Spectrum: From n8n workflows to GCP code, from AI integration to ERP connection – you won't be limited to one technology but will solve real problems with the best tool.
- Flexibility: 30% home office share and flexible working hours – because good technical work requires concentration, not mandatory presence.
- Attractive Package: Salary of €68,000–€72,000, net salary optimization (company car / company bike / fringe benefits).
- Growth & Visibility: In a company with 60 employees, you will see the impact of your work immediately – not after three quarters of coordination.
- Team Culture: A family-like environment that is nevertheless professional and modern. We work together, help each other, and celebrate joint successes.
