Role Description
The Process Engineering Manager will oversee the engineering activities that support efficient, safe, and cost-effective manufacturing operations. This role bridges manufacturing and quality functions to ensure optimal production performance, continuous improvement, and adherence to technical and quality standards. The Process Engineering Manager leads a team of engineers and technicians responsible for continuously optimizing production processes, ensuring product quality and manufacturing efficiency, production line layout, and implementation of new technologies or product introductions. They are also responsible for analyzing and improving engineering and technical issues related to the assembly, testing, and packaging of SMT, Wave Soldering, PCBA, Battery Packs, and end products (Box Build).
Key Responsibilities
Process Optimization
- Analyze current production methods and recommend process improvements to reduce waste, increase output, and enhance product quality.
- Maintain and improve production tooling, jigs, and fixtures to support assembly and test operations.
- Drive process stability and yield improvement for SMT, Wave Soldering, and other related processes.
Project Management
- Lead engineering projects related to new product introduction (NPI), equipment upgrades, and process automation.
- Oversee capital equipment installation and commissioning; manage project budgets and timelines.
- Ensure that all process changes are properly documented and validated before full implementation.
Quality & Compliance
- Partner with the Quality Assurance and Control teams to ensure that production processes meet regulatory, safety, and customer specifications (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or industry-specific standards).
- Analyze and resolve technical and quality issues arising in production processes.
- Conduct root cause analyses (RCA) and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for recurring issues.
- Support statistical process control (SPC) and continuous process monitoring systems.
Data & Reporting
- Use production metrics (yield, scrap rate, OEE, downtime, etc.) to identify bottlenecks and set performance targets.
- Report on key engineering performance indicators to senior leadership.
- Conduct regular technical briefings and progress reports to management and international clients.
Innovation & Technology
- Evaluate and introduce new technologies such as robotics, automation, or Industry 4.0 tools to improve productivity and quality.
- Stay current with emerging manufacturing technologies and materials.
Leadership & Management
- Supervise and mentor production and process engineers, providing technical guidance, developing and implement engineering improvement plans, and providing performance feedback.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments (Design, Quality, Supply Chain, Maintenance, and Operations), customers, and suppliers to drive efficiency and product quality.
Qualifications
Experience:
- 7+ years of progressive experience in electronic manufacturing or production engineering
- 3+ years in a leadership/supervisory role
- Experience in a high-volume, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering, Electric Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related scientific field, or additional equivalent experience.
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of PCBA manufacturing processes, equipment design, and layout planning as well as capable of introducing new product processes (NPI).
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM software, process simulation, and data analytics tools.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP and shop floor systems and production scheduling tools.
- Practical experience in Battery Pack and Box Build processes is highly preferred.
Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills; excellent communicate skills; Ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
Other:
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines; Ability to collaborate with HQ and local leadership; bilingual (English/Mandarin) preferred but not required.
