Our client is seeking a highly motivated and analytical Process Improvement Engineer to join their team in East London, Eastern Cape, ZA. This position is critical for driving efficiency, quality, and cost reduction across our manufacturing and operational processes. The role involves hands-on analysis, data-driven decision-making, and the implementation of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
As a Process Improvement Engineer, you will be tasked with identifying bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement within existing workflows. You will utilize statistical analysis and process mapping tools to understand current operations and develop data-backed recommendations for optimization. Your expertise will be crucial in designing and implementing new processes, equipment, and systems that enhance productivity and product quality.
Key responsibilities include leading cross-functional teams on improvement projects, conducting root cause analysis for production issues, and developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and best practices. You will also be involved in capacity planning, waste reduction initiatives, and implementing workplace safety improvements. This role requires a strong understanding of industrial engineering principles and a passion for continuous improvement.
We are looking for an individual with excellent problem-solving skills, a systematic approach to challenges, and the ability to influence change across different departments. A strong technical background, coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, will be essential for collaborating with engineers, operators, and management. Responsibilities
- Analyze existing manufacturing and operational processes to identify areas for improvement in efficiency, quality, and cost.
- Utilize lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to drive process optimization.
- Develop and implement process improvements, including workflow redesign, automation, and technology integration.
- Conduct root cause analysis for production defects and operational issues.
- Lead cross-functional teams in implementing improvement projects from concept to completion.
- Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and report on process performance.
- Collaborate with R&D, production, and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless integration of process changes.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement throughout the organization.
- Ensure all implemented processes adhere to safety and environmental standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience (3+ years) as a Process Improvement Engineer or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles, Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt preferred).
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, Excel) and process mapping software.
- Experience with CAD software is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong project management and leadership abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder management.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Experience in the automotive or manufacturing sector is highly desirable.
This role is based in East London, Eastern Cape, ZA, and requires on-site presence to effectively implement and oversee process improvements.
