About the role

About Pasqal

Pasqal designs and develops Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) and associated software tools. Our innovative technology enables the processing of use cases that are currently beyond the reach of the most powerful supercomputers, covering both industrial application challenges and fundamental science needs. Beyond the exceptional computing power they provide, QPUs are highly energy-efficient and will significantly contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of the intensive computing industry.

Job Description

As part of our growth, we are recruiting a Processing Hardware Engineer H/F to strengthen our Quantum Process team. Within the Hardware department, the Processing team develops and validates the physical operations executed during the computation phase of PASQAL's neutral-atom QPUs (e.g., 1-qubit / 2-qubit gates).

We are looking for a theory/modeling-oriented profile capable of contributing to both short-term performance improvements and the medium/long-term evolution of processing capabilities, in line with the hardware roadmap.

Your Missions:

  • Design, implement, and optimize processing operations (state preparation, gates, dynamical decoupling, coherent transport) on our QPUs
  • Implement optimal control methods under realistic hardware constraints (bandwidth, noise, crosstalk…)
  • Identify dominant error sources, develop/maintain noise models, and establish error budgets
  • Relate operational-level errors to circuit/digital performance (end-to-end simulations, benchmarks, sensitivity analyses)
  • Contribute to medium/long-term processing directions in coordination with other teams
  • Develop and maintain internal simulation/emulation libraries consistent with experimental data

About you

  • PhD in AMO physics (Atomic, Molecular, and Optical physics) / Quantum Information
  • Solid understanding of neutral-atom platforms (trapping, cooling, lasers, noise…) and their impact on operations
  • Ability to model real-world imperfections (lab experience appreciated)
  • Very good programming skills in scientific computing (e.g., Python), data analysis, and simulation
  • Autonomy, rigor, interdisciplinary collaboration, clear communication
  • Good level of English (written/spoken)
  • Experience: PhD + 0–5 years

What we offer

  • New offices in Massy
  • Flexible on-site rhythm (2-3 days of remote work per week)
  • Contract type: Permanent contract (CDI)
  • A dynamic and close-knit international team
  • A key role in a fast-growing start-up
  • Free time for training and attending conferences/meetups

Hiring process

  • A 30’ interview with our talent acquisition
  • A discussion with your future manager
  • A meeting with the team at our offices
  • An offer!

Pasqal is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace, as inclusion and diversity are essential to achieving our mission. We encourage applications from all qualified candidates, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, age, religion, or sexual orientation.
