Product Design Engineer

Overview

The Product Design Engineer is a key member of the Project Engineering team within a fast-paced electronics manufacturing environment. Reporting directly to the Director of Project Engineering, this role collaborates closely with the Design and R&D teams to manage assigned product variant projects from concept through production, supporting all phases of product development and engineering.

Responsibilities

• Develop design concepts based on design briefs, variant data forms, or project specifications with minimal supervision.
• Create part drawings, support prototype development, coordinate UL/CSA listings in partnership with the R&D lab and certification liaisons, oversee required testing, and assist in building samples and prototypes.
• Manage multiple priorities effectively through strong time management skills, while occasionally coordinating the efforts of others to meet project objectives.
• Execute value engineering initiatives aimed at achieving cost savings and product improvement goals.
• Prepare and maintain product documentation, including bills of material in the ERP system, assembly documentation, cost sheets, installation instructions, and specification data sheets.
• Perform additional duties as assigned based on business priorities and management direction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in product design within a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor for assembly drawings and AutoCAD for creating and modifying fixture profiles and layouts. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe applications.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across customer service, vendors, partners, fabrication, and production teams.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational ability, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to manage personal workload efficiently while balancing multiple competing priorities.
