This position is responsible for the development, refinement, and performance of innovative product solutions from concept to production. The role combines design innovation with engineering precision to ensure that every product meets functional, aesthetic, and manufacturing standards. It also involves enhancing existing products and processes to optimize efficiency and elevate performance. The position oversees the integration of new materials, hardware, and construction methods, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards while maintaining cost efficiency. Furthermore, this role involves managing timelines and resources, continuously exploring opportunities to improve system functionality, installation efficiency, and user experience within the evolving office environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop and refine innovative product designs using knowledge of materials and processes for upholstered products, sheet metal, tubular steel, laminate/melamine wood products, etc.
- Utilize software for design efficiency including Solidworks and Microsoft Excel.
- Create bill of material and costing breakdowns utilizing Solidworks.
- Prototype new product design concepts utilizing 3D printers and advanced manufacturing machinery. Prototyping process may also include analyzing, identifying and resolving any functionality issues.
- Ensure product design is in compliance with ANSI-BIFMA industry standards.
- Liaison with suppliers on product development initiatives.
- Liaison with marketing department on technical drawings or images needed for product launches.
- Manage division timelines and resources to ensure goals are being met.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or relevant technical degree.
- Proficiency in Solidworks.
- Experience in product development (furniture manufacturing preferred).
- Strong understanding of materials such as metal, wood, laminates, and plastics.
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods (CNC, fabrication, assembly, etc.)
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
