About the role
About the Company
PreciseTarget is an AI company based in Bethesda, Maryland. The company is led by Rob McGovern, prior founder of Careerbuilder.com, which had a successful IPO and was acquired for $440 Million. We have strong data science competencies, and we service customers in retail and publishing. We’re finalizing two strategic partnership agreements which create the need for operational expertise and product leadership.
Position Description
We’re hiring a Product Manager, Platform to own and scale the foundational systems and shared capabilities that power our products and internal operations. This role sits at the center of how products get built and is best suited for PMs who are drawn to complex systems, enjoy working close to the technical stack, and care deeply about building infrastructure that is correct, scalable, and durable over time.
You’ll define the systems and abstractions that other teams rely on—directly shaping scalability, development velocity, and product quality across the company. In this capacity you will translate complex technical and operational requirements into structured, reliable platform systems used across Engineering, Data, and Operations—driving consistency, reuse, and efficiency across the organization.
You will own initiatives end-to-end, from detailed requirements through execution, and are accountable for delivering shared capabilities that enable scale, interoperability, and long-term technical leverage. This is a high-impact, execution-driven role in a spec-driven environment requiring precision, strong systems thinking, and comfort operating in complex, interdependent technical systems.
Core Requirements
- You have owned and delivered platform systems or technical products with clear, measurable business impact
- You are highly effective at translating complex technical and operational processes into precise, structured, and testable requirements
- You are comfortable working closely with engineering on APIs, services, data models, and system dependencies
- You think in systems—proactively identifying failure modes, edge cases, and downstream impacts before they occur
- You have a high bar for precision and quality, and produce clear documentation that minimizes ambiguity and rework
What You’ll Do
- Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for shared platform capabilities and core systems, with accountability for scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability
- Translate complex technical and business requirements into detailed, production-ready product specifications
- Define and evolve shared services, workflows, and business logic that enable reuse across multiple products and teams
- Build and scale internal tools that improve efficiency, reduce manual work, and increase throughput for technical and operational teams
- Define and manage APIs, integrations, schemas, and event-driven workflows to ensure system interoperability and consistency
- Own foundational data, observability, and system reliability capabilities, including monitoring, debugging, and operational support workflows
- Work closely with Engineering and Data to define system behavior, dependencies, and edge cases upfront—reducing ambiguity during implementation
- Balance business priorities with platform quality, ensuring systems are scalable, maintainable, and extensible over time
- Use data to prioritize work, measure impact, and surface failure points across platform systems
- Drive cross-functional delivery across technical teams and ensure systems are production-ready at launch
- Continuously improve system reliability, developer efficiency, and platform quality in complex, high-scale environments
Required Skills
- 5–10+ years of Product Management experience
- Strong experience writing detailed product requirements and specifications in technical environments
- Strong logical and systems thinking, with the ability to reason about complex dependencies and workflows
- Experience working on platform systems, internal tools, or infrastructure-adjacent products
- Familiarity and comfort working with APIs, workflows, data models, and structured payloads (e.g., JSON)
- Data-driven decision making and prioritization
- Proven cross-functional collaboration (Engineering, Data, Business)
- Strong written and verbal communication
Nice to Have
- Experience in spec-driven development environments
- Experience building shared platform capabilities, services, or internal infrastructure
- Familiarity with data quality, observability, and system reliability practices
- Experience supporting multiple products or teams through common platform systems
- Experience in complex, highly interdependent technical environments
