Product Manager (Product Testing & Compliance)

TalentBurst, an Inc 5000 company

New York · On-site Contract Mid Level $28 – $28/hr 2w ago

About the role

Role Summary

This Product Manager (Product Testing & Compliance) supports UMG's new product testing program. The role makes sure products from our vendors are safe, meet quality standards, and comply with U.S. and international regulations. You'll work with internal teams, outside labs, and vendors to manage testing, fix issues, and keep clear records.

What you'll do

  • Partner with Sourcing, Production, Design, Legal, Merchandising, and Retail/Wholesale to flag and resolve product quality and compliance issues across all categories.
  • Track repeated test failures, inspection issues, and vendor performance, and summarize key trends for the team.
  • Stay current on major wholesale account requirements and help internal partners understand them.
  • Act as a go‐to contact for basic questions about product testing, quality, and compliance.
  • Prepare simple quarterly reports for Sourcing and leadership to use in vendor reviews and scorecards.
  • Keep department files, test records, and tracking spreadsheets organized and up to date.
  • Support other product testing and quality projects as needed.
  • Coordinate product testing for physical quality, safety, and regulatory requirements (e.g., care codes, restricted substances lists, basic performance standards).
  • Help onboard new vendors and walk them through UMG's quality, product integrity, and compliance expectations.
  • Answer vendor questions about inspections, test requirements, and test results.
  • Review test reports, flag failures or risks, and work with vendors to agree on corrective actions.
  • Help vendors understand how to prevent repeat issues and improve overall quality.
  • Send test requests and instructions to external labs and make sure they follow the right methods and protocols.
  • Monitor lab turnaround times and report quality; follow up when tests are late or unclear.
  • Help ensure test reports are complete, accurate, and easy for internal teams to use.
  • Keep an eye on key U.S. and global product regulations (for example CPSC, CPSIA, FTC rules, California Prop 65, REACH) and flag changes that may affect our products.
  • Support internal teams by answering basic regulatory questions and helping validate fiber content, care instructions, labeling, and other required information.

What we're looking for

  • 2-5 years of experience in product integrity, product testing, or quality assurance in fashion, jewelry, or consumer products.
  • Familiar with basic apparel or consumer product manufacturing processes.
  • Exposure to product testing labs or reading test reports is helpful (can be trained).
  • Working knowledge of major safety/compliance standards is a plus: CPSC, CPSIA, FTC rules, California Prop 65, REACH, basic restricted substance concepts.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office (especially Excel); comfortable working in trackers, reports, and PowerPoint decks.
  • Highly organized, detail‐oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks with a sense of urgency.
  • Clear, friendly communicator—able to speak with vendors, labs, and internal partners in a calm, approachable way.
  • Self‐starter who can work in a small team, take ownership of day‐to‐day work, and follow through without constant direction.
  • Genuine interest in product testing, fabric and material trends, sustainability, and social compliance.
  • In practice, client is looking for a junior-mid QA / product integrity coordinator type from apparel, jewelry, or consumer products, who is comfortable with Excel, understands the basics of product testing and compliance, and is happy to do detailed, process‐driven work in a small, growing team.
