About the role
Photo-Sonics, Inc. is an international leader in state-of-the art optical tracking systems in Chatsworth and has an immediate opening for a Product Technical Writer. We’re seeking a multi-disciplinary candidate who is self-motivated and is able to set and meet goals.
The Product Technical Writer will coordinate with the Program Manager and Chief Systems Architect as well as with program team to produce systems operating manuals (includes software user manual), support new product development and ongoing programs. Product Technical Writer will collaborate with subject matter experts to develop procedures, training materials, instructional documents, guidelines, maintenance, work instructions, and test procedures for Photo-Sonic, Inc.’s (‘the Company”) technical products.
Responsibilities
- Research and collect information from a variety of sources including online help, manuals, white papers, design specifications, project plans, assembly procedures, bills of material, Solid Works 3D drawings, test plans & procedures, etc.
- Prepare, review, revise, and maintain technical documents including but not limited to: Operator Manuals and Procedures, Training Manuals, Maintenance Manuals, Technical Service Bulletins, Installation Instructions, Overhaul and Repair Instructions, Test Plans & Procedures, and general software documentation in accordance with internal and customer specifications and requirements.
- Take meeting minutes and maintain action item list and follow-up
- Take ownership for formal deliverable documents by directly working with SME’s
- Ensure that the documents are clear, concise, and technically accurate. Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, and charts to increase users’ understanding
- Attend “in-person” meetings with Subject Matter Experts (SME) to meet the schedule
- Attend regularly scheduled bi-weekly formal meetings with customer and Integrated Product Team (IPT).
- Participate in formal design reviews to generate notes and action items.
- Deliver oral and written status and progress briefs to Chief Systems Architect, Senior Program management, executive management and customer as directed.
- Other duties and projects as assigned by management.
Requirements
Education:
- B.S. in a technical discipline (Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent). Certification of a Technical & Scientific program.
Experience:
- Relevant 5 years’ technical writing experience in military research or manufacturing environment. Experience writing Operational manuals.
Skills:
- Ability to learn to read, analyze, and interpret system specifications.
- Ability to learn Software mining (preferred)
- Ability to work independently, multitask and establish priorities
- Focused, detail oriented and organized to meet internal schedules and deadlines.
- Must have hands on experience writing operational manuals, assisting with proposals, technical reports, etc.
- Excellent reasoning, communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability and drive to learn and grow.
- Ability to multitask and create, maintain and manage multiple project objectives according to deadlines.
- Proficient in a range of Microsoft products (e.g. Word, Power Point, Excel).
- Knowledge of MS Project, CAD and graphic tools is a plus.
- Prefer familiarity with military and industry standards and processes as well as AS9100 quality systems

Physical requirements:
- Position requires ability to lift (15 lbs.), stand, walk for long periods of time
