Company Overview: The branch operates two divisions: FastPlate, which manages national and diplomatic licence plate renewals, and 3D-X-Act, which specialises in printing, signage, branding, and custom packaging manufacturing. Together, these divisions provide a combination of regulated government-related services and commercial design and production solutions to a diverse client base.

The Gezina site functions as a high-output production and service environment where accuracy, speed, and consistency are critical. Operations include customer service, design and artwork preparation, production, quality control, and order fulfilment. The branch services walk-in clients, corporate clients, and government-related licence plate renewals, while also producing custom print and signage projects for businesses.

Role Purpose: The Production Manager is responsible for taking full ownership of production output at the Gezina site. This includes planning, scheduling, workflow control, people management, stock control and quality assurance to ensure on-time delivery, consistent quality, controlled costs, and disciplined production-floor execution.

Production Planning & Scheduling

• Build and execute daily and weekly production plans, priorities, and sequencing.

• Ensure all jobs are production-ready before release (approved artwork, job cards, materials available).

• Maintain clear WIP tracking and enforce cut-off times and dispatch deadlines.

• Coordinate with client service/front office to manage priorities, rush jobs, and realistic ETAs.

Workflow & Process Control

• Implement and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) across production and finishing.

• Identify bottlenecks and continuously improve production flow.

• Reduce rework, queue time, and job stagnation through active floor management.

Quality Management

• Own and enforce quality standards across all production stages.

• Conduct pre-production, in-process, and final quality checks.

• Track reprints, non-conformances, and complaints, and implement corrective actions.

• Train and guide staff on quality expectations.

People Leadership & Floor Discipline

• Supervise production staff performance, attendance, productivity, and conduct.

• Allocate labour effectively per shift and skill level.

• Coach, train, and upskill staff while enforcing accountability.

• Run start-of-day briefings and end-of-day close-outs.

Stock, Waste & Cost Control

• Ensure disciplined material usage, tracking and waste recording.

• Monitor scrap, misprints, spoilage, and finishing waste.

• Support accurate job costing, time allocation, and job close-offs.

Maintenance & Equipment Uptime

• Ensure daily machine checklists and basic preventative maintenance are completed.

• Track downtime, identify root causes, and coordinate repairs or servicing.

• Drive equipment uptime through prevention and operator discipline.

Reporting & Performance Management

• Prepare daily and weekly reports covering:

– Output vs plan

– On-time delivery

– Rework and waste

– Downtime and causes

– WIP status and ageing

• Escalate risks, constraints, and delays early with clear impact and solutions.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Required Skills & Experience:

• 4+ years’ experience in a production management role (print, signage, manufacturing).

• Proven ability to manage production scheduling, WIP control, and dispatch discipline.

• Strong people management and leadership skills.

• Solid understanding of quality control and rework reduction.

• Strong Excel / Google Sheets skills for reporting and KPI tracking.

Software / Systems:

• Production workflow or job-ticketing systems (advantageous)

• Excel / Google Sheets

• Internal stock, costing, or MIS systems

Location & Working Hours:

• Based at the Gezina branch, Pretoria.

• Monday – Friday, 08:00 am – 17:00pm.

• Working hours aligned to operational and shift-based requirements.

Requirements:

• Valid South African ID

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure production environment.

• Strong leadership presence on the production floor.

R22 000 - R25 000 depending on experience
