DSSP is seeking a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt to lead high-impact Performance Improvement (PI) projects within the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED). The successful candidate will apply advanced LSS and "Get Real Get Better" (GRGB) methodologies to standardize workflows, reduce variability, and eliminate waste across various Navy Medicine commands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Execution: Lead and support PI projects utilizing DMAIC (for standardizing processes), DMADV (for new technology/process design), and Rapid Improvement Events (RIE).
  • Healthcare Optimization: Apply CPI/LSS expertise specifically to the healthcare industry to enhance operational efficiency and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Mentorship & Training: Conduct monthly mentoring sessions for Green Belt and Black Belt candidates to verify knowledge transfer and technical accuracy.
  • Workflow Analysis: Perform comprehensive process mapping and root cause analysis to identify inefficiencies and bottlenecks in existing Navy Medicine workflows.
  • Reporting: Provide detailed technical reports documenting current processes, identified waste, and data-driven recommendations for optimized workflows.
  • Certification Validation: Review project submissions for technical accuracy and alignment with Navy Medicine strategic initiatives prior to government certification.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Clearance: Must possess an active Secret Clearance.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certification: Must be a Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and have practiced continuously as a Black Belt since certification.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant field experience.
    • Specific experience in Continuous Process Improvement (CPI)/LSS within a healthcare setting.
    • Deep familiarity with the ASQ MBB Book of Knowledge (BOK) or equivalent industry-recognized standards.
  • Operational Knowledge: Working knowledge of Navy and Marine Corps Operational Environments is highly preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in data analysis and statistical software for root cause analysis.
  • Excellent facilitation skills for leading Rapid Improvement Events (RIEs).
  • Strong ability to work with diverse stakeholders to implement organizational change.
