Our client, a leading residential developer in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Area, is seeking a Project / Development Accountant for their Rockville office. This role offers an opportunity to engage in various accounting responsibilities, including financial reporting, cash planning, variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and collaboration with various departments. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Project Accountant will work closely with project teams involved in land acquisition, development, executive leadership, and construction and warranty personnel. The ideal candidate will be a detail‑oriented, analytical, tech‑savvy self‑starter, and a strong communicator.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze financial statements for construction projects.
- Manage all accounting and finance aspects related to construction projects.
- Oversee and process construction loan draws.
- Review construction contracts and ensure compliance.
- Conduct bank reconciliations and ensure accuracy.
- Perform job cost accounting and manage related tasks.
- Review and process invoices.
- Analyze budget variances and provide insights.
- Prepare monthly journal entries.
- Communicate effectively with subcontractors and address any issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA license preferred.
- 2-4 years of experience in public accounting is required.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with BI reporting is a plus.
