Project Accountant

About

A growing construction organization is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join its team. This role offers strong exposure to project financials, collaboration with operations, and the opportunity to contribute to a rapidly expanding business.

This position is fully onsite with limited travel (up to 20%) to regional project locations. Initial training may take place at a Northern Virginia office.

Key Responsibilities

Job Cost & Project Accounting

• Track and monitor project costs including labor, materials, and subcontractors
• Maintain job cost reports and analyze budget vs. actual performance
• Partner with project managers to review project financials

Billing & Revenue Recognition

• Prepare and process AIA billing applications
• Support percentage-of-completion billing and revenue recognition
• Ensure timely and accurate invoicing based on contract terms
• Track and reconcile over/under billings

WIP & Financial Reporting

• Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
• Assist with monthly close including accruals and journal entries
• Reconcile project sub-ledgers to the general ledger

Certified Payroll & Compliance

• Assist with certified payroll reporting (prevailing wage compliance)
• Ensure alignment with federal and state contract requirements
• Maintain documentation for audits and compliance reviews

General Accounting Support

• Review and code invoices to appropriate jobs and cost codes
• Support AP/AR functions tied to project activity
• Assist with internal and external audits

Qualifications

• 3+ years of project accounting experience within the construction industry
• Strong job costing experience preferred
• Experience with ERP systems (training provided on internal system)
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and solve problems independently
