Job Description
Half-Time Project Coordinator – Open House Project
Location: Southern Africa (with regional travel)
Contract Type: Half-Time (20 hours per week)
Start Date: 1 June 2026
Duration: 7 months
The Parliamentary Monitoring Group (PMG) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Project Coordinator to lead the implementation of the Open House Project across Southern Africa.
The role focuses on establishing and coordinating networks of parliamentary monitoring organisations (PMOs) in seven countries, while promoting and supporting the completion of the Open Parliament Index (OPI) by parliaments and civil society.
Roles and Responsibilities • Network Coordination: Establish and coordinate networks of PMOs in 7 Southern African countries. Ensure effective communication and collaboration among all stakeholders. • Open Parliament Index Promotion: Encourage and support the completion of the OPI by the parliaments and civil society organizations in the respective countries. • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with parliamentary bodies, government officials, and civil society groups to foster participation in the OPI. Collaborate with partners to deliver on the project objectives • Training and Capacity Building: Organize training sessions and workshops to educate stakeholders on the significance of the OPI and how to effectively complete it. • Monitoring and Reporting: Track progress and compile comprehensive reports on the status of network establishment and OPI completion. • Project Management: Develop and implement project plans, timelines, and budgets. Ensure all project activities are completed on time and within budget. • Communications and Advocacy: Develop and roll out a clear communication strategy. Present the project to stakeholders. Advocate for the importance of parliamentary monitoring and the benefits of the OPI in enhancing parliamentary efficiency and accountability.
Qualifications And Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Administration, International Relations, Law or a related field. • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project coordination, particularly within the field of governance or parliamentary monitoring. • Strong understanding of parliamentary processes and the role of civil society in promoting transparency and accountability. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate diverse stakeholders. • Strong report writing skills. • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, with strong organizational and time-management skills. • Experience in organizing and facilitating trainings and workshops. • Fluency in English; proficiency in other languages spoken in Southern Africa, especially Portuguese is an asset. • Travel extensively within the Southern African region.
