About FAIRmat

FAIRmat stands for FAIR Data Infrastructure for Condensed-Matter Physics and the Chemical Physics of Solids and is a consortium within the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). FAIRmat is building a FAIR data infrastructure for materials science and related research fields and develops NOMAD (www.nomad-lab.eu), the world’s largest data repository in computational materials science. Our highly dynamic and international team consists of members from software development, condensed matter physics/chemistry, and materials science.

We are looking for a committed colleague to strengthen our interdisciplinary team.

Your responsibilities

  • Group Leadership of Area E: Digital Infrastructure within the FAIRmat project
  • Responsibility for the design and implementation of internal milestones and provision of regular progress reports
  • Presentation of the project at national and international conferences and workshops as well as in scientific publications
  • Business travel and coordination of activities with partner institutes

What you bring to the table

  • Completed scientific university degree in physics, materials science, computer science, or another relevant discipline
  • Strong skills in Git version control and CI/CD workflows
  • Proficiency with a Unix-based software environment
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming, experience with Python and TypeScript
  • Familiarity with deploying scalable cloud solutions on Kubernetes; Helm experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with REST API design and asynchronous programming; FastAPI experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with orchestrating scalable data processing workflows; experience with the Temporal Python SDK is a plus
  • Experience with scientific workflows and participation in research data activities following FAIR principles; experience with NOMAD is an advantage
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborative, multidisciplinary, and cross-institutional projects such as FAIRmat
  • Experience with agile and/or matrix project management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (at least C1)
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong ability to work in a team
