About the role

Position Overview

Thompson Construction Group has current openings for a Project Manager based in Fort McMurray. This role requires a strong onsite presence to support active operations. Local candidates with knowledge of the Fort McMurray region, workforce, and operating environment are strongly preferred; however, Fly-In/Fly-Out (FIFO) arrangements are available for qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project timelines and budgets to ensure projects are completed on schedule and in accordance with project requirements
  • Provide scheduling support for estimates and active projects
  • Organize and oversee daily operations
  • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Manage change orders, including quoting and cost analysis related to scope changes
  • Prepare and manage project reporting, including cost summaries, load count reports, daily LEM reporting, volume tracking, and invoicing
  • Participate in weekly progress, supervisor, and management meetings
  • Review daily foreman reports for coding accuracy
  • Conduct job site visits with management and supervision
  • Assist with budget estimates and project quotes
  • Complete month-end accrual reporting
  • Attend client meetings associated with pre-tender, post-tender, and project start-ups
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in earthworks construction and/or oil & gas projects
  • Diploma or Undergraduate Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Strong computer skills and technical writing ability
  • Proficiency with PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Primavera Software
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Willingness to work in the Fort McMurray area, either as a local employee or on a Fly-In/Fly-Out rotational schedule
  • CSO/BSO Certification
  • Ability to pass a pre-access drug and alcohol test
