About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager (Engineering) to support the Processing Controls Engineering group within the gas organization. This role is responsible for managing multiple capital projects related to facilities and stations across natural gas transmission and distribution systems.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical project management expertise, particularly within utility or LDC environments, and will be comfortable managing projects across all lifecycle phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end project management for multiple, complex capital projects
- Manage full project lifecycle from initiation, definition, and approval through implementation and closeout
- Develop and maintain project scope, schedule, budget, and resource plans
- Drive execution using a structured stage-gate project management approach
- Oversee financial planning including forecasting, estimating, and accruals
- Ensure alignment with financial, safety, compliance, operational, and customer goals
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously at various stages of the lifecycle
- Lead cross-functional teams to meet project milestones, timelines, and quality expectations
- Establish and maintain communication with stakeholders, leadership, and project teams
- Conduct and present Stage Gate reviews to leadership
- Ensure effective change management throughout the project lifecycle
- Prepare project documentation, status reports, and performance metrics
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure successful project delivery
Project Scope
- Manage 6–8 projects annually
- Project values range from $300K to $2.5M
- Typical project duration: ~2 years
- Year 1: Engineering & permitting
- Year 2: Construction
- Oversee projects across different phases simultaneously
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of project management experience, preferably in natural gas utilities
- Experience with transmission and distribution (T&D) or LDC projects
- Strong knowledge of scope, schedule, and budget management
- Experience in financial forecasting, estimating, and accruals
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in gas facilities and station projects
- Experience working with utilities such as (not required): PG&E, SoCalGas, Southwest Gas, National Grid, Peoples Gas, MidAmerican Energy, Spire, Puget Sound utilities
- Familiarity with Primavera P6
- Strong experience with MS Excel and SAP
- Technical engineering background
Certifications (Preferred)
- PMP (Project Management Professional)
- PE (Professional Engineer) – may be considered in lieu of PMP
