About the role

Role Summary

This position leads the successful delivery of hydro generation projects from early planning through final commissioning. The Hydro Mechanical Project Manager is accountable for coordinating multidisciplinary teams, managing technical scope, controlling budgets and schedules, and ensuring all work is executed safely, efficiently, and in line with project objectives. This role combines hands-on technical oversight with strong client and stakeholder engagement.

Primary Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Controls

  • Plan, execute, and close hydro mechanical projects in accordance with defined scope, schedule, and budget
  • Establish and maintain project plans, cost forecasts, schedules, and risk registers

Technical & Engineering Oversight

  • Coordinate mechanical design activities related to hydroelectric equipment and systems
  • Provide technical direction and review engineering outputs to ensure constructability and compliance

Construction & Installation Management

  • Oversee field installation activities, ensuring quality, safety, and adherence to technical requirements
  • Support commissioning activities and transition to operations

Stakeholder & Client Engagement

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients and key partners
  • Foster strong working relationships with contractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders

Documentation & Deliverables

  • Review, approve, and manage technical documentation including drawings, specifications, schedules, and reports

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track project progress and performance metrics
  • Prepare regular status updates covering cost, schedule, risk, and quality

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all project activities comply with applicable safety standards, regulatory requirements, and contractual commitments

Qualifications & Professional Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience
  • At least 5 years of experience supporting or leading hydro generation or heavy industrial projects through design, construction, or commissioning
  • Demonstrated capability to lead technically complex projects and interdisciplinary teams
  • Proficiency with project controls and planning tools, including MS Project and MS Excel
  • Experience with Primavera P6 is advantageous
  • Valid Class G driver's license
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada

  • Direct experience with hydroelectric or renewable power generation projects
