We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead a team supporting a federal contract at the Government Accountability Office (GAO) Headquarters in Washington, DC.
Position Overview
The Project Manager will serve as the onsite lead responsible for managing Contractor support personnel and overseeing all contract operations. This role includes organizing, directing, and coordinating complex, interrelated project tasks while maintaining high-level engagement with senior government stakeholders. The successful candidate will ensure all tasks are completed on time, within scope, and within budget; maintain progress reporting; assign and monitor staff responsibilities; and uphold exceptional communication with both Contractor and Government leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operations of the Contractor support team onsite at GAO Headquarters.
- Organize, direct, and oversee multiple complex, inter-related project tasks.
- Serve as primary senior-level point of contact with Government stakeholders.
- Meet regularly with Government and Contractor personnel to review task plans, deliverables, and progress.
- Ensure compliance with project schedules, budgets, and performance deliverables.
- Develop and maintain technical and financial progress reports for Government and Contractor leadership.
- Assign and delegate responsibilities to team members and ensure tasks are completed successfully.
- Monitor and manage all onsite contract activities.
- Respond to communications and taskings within 24 hours (during business hours only).
- Establish and adhere to a work schedule that aligns with GAO core hours (between 6:00 AM–7:00 PM ET, Monday–Friday).
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience performing program and project management support services similar to those described in this Statement of Work.
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a field related to the work of the contract.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams and managing government or enterprise-level projects.
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Ability to maintain effective senior-level client relationships.
- Must be able to work full-time onsite, with limited ad-hoc telework.
Work Environment & Expectations
- This position requires consistent onsite presence at GAO Headquarters in Washington, DC.
- Occasional telework may be permitted on a case‑by‑case basis with COR approval.
- The Project Manager must follow GAO core working hours and approved operating times.
- Must respond to Government communications within 24 hours (with no requirement to respond outside normal business hours).
