About

To lead the successful end-to-end business implementation of a state-of-the-art B2C pick, pack, and distribution warehouse for large global retail client supplying the UK market. The Project Manager will be responsible for taking an empty facility and then, coordinating, and executing all aspects of the project, ensuring timely delivery, cost control, operational readiness working alongside the customer and a GEODIS team.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership:

  • Lead the cross-functional project team to deliver the B2C warehouse implementation within scope, on time, and within budget.
  • Own the full project lifecycle from business case and planning through execution, go-live, and handover to operations.
  • Define scope, milestones, dependencies, RAID, budget, and governance for the warehouse implementation.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Act as the main point of contact for the client and internal/external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment on project objectives.

Project Planning:

  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, and critical path activities, ensuring all milestones are tracked and achieved.

Operational Design:

  • Oversee the design and layout of the warehouse to optimize e-commerce pick, pack, and distribution operations, including automation and technology integration.
  • Work with warehouse, logistics, and retail stakeholders to design operating processes for inbound, storage, pick, pack, dispatch, returns, and stock control.
  • Coordinate warehouse fit-out activities such as racking, MHE, layout, safety systems, CCTV, access control, and site readiness.

Process Implementation:

  • Lead the definition and implementation of operational processes, including receiving, inventory management, picking, packing, shipping, and returns.
  • Lead systems implementation and integration for WMS, order management, ERP, carrier systems, handheld devices, scanning, and reporting.

Resource Management:

  • Work with HR and operations to recruit, onboard, and train warehouse staff as required.
  • Manage suppliers, third-party contractors, consultants, and internal teams to deliver against plan.

Systems Integration:

  • Coordinate the deployment and integration of warehouse management systems (WMS), order management systems (OMS), and other relevant technologies.
  • Plan and run testing, training, cutover, mock go-live, and business continuity activities.

Risk Management:

  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation plans to address them promptly.
  • Track risks, issues, changes, and benefits, escalating where required and maintaining stakeholder visibility.

Quality & Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, legal, and regulatory requirements; establish operational KPIs and quality standards, and operational controls are embedded before launch.

Reporting:

  • Provide regular progress updates, status reports, and escalate issues as necessary to senior leadership.
  • Deliver a structured handover to operations, support teams, and leadership with documentation and lessons learned.

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience in project management, preferably in warehouse distribution, supply chain, or retail implementation or e-commerce logistics environments.
  • Strong understanding of warehouse operations, automation solutions, and e-commerce fulfillment processes.
  • Experience in stakeholder management and leading cross-functional teams, experience leading an eCommerce fulfilment or logistics start-up, new site opening, warehouse move, or major transformation programme.
  • Familiarity with strong understanding of warehouse operations, inventory flows, fulfilment processes and distribution networks along with management systems (WMS), order management systems (OMS), and related technologies.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with IT and business teams on systems implementation or process change.
  • Track record of managing multiple stakeholders, vendors, and contractors in a matrix environment.
  • Experience delivering projects on time, within budget, and to scope.
  • Project Management certification (e.g., Prince2, PMP) is an advantage.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Essential Experience and Knowledge

  • Strong project planning, governance, and reporting skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills across operational and senior leadership levels.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into practical warehouse processes and implementation plans.
  • Risk management, problem solving, and decision-making under pressure.
  • Strong influencing skills to drive alignment across operations, IT, and commercial teams.
  • Ability to manage change, training, and readiness activities for go-live.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced retail and eCommerce environment.
  • Experience with WMS selection, implementation, and cutover.
  • Knowledge of eCommerce carriers, fulfilment KPIs, SLAs, and service design.
  • Experience in retail, FMCG, 3PL, or direct-to-consumer distribution.
  • Understanding of warehouse fit-out, automation, and material handling equipment.
  • Formal project management qualification such as PRINCE2, APM, or PMP.
  • The ideal candidate is a delivery-focused project leader who can balance operational detail with strategic oversight within a retail environment.
  • They should be comfortable working across business changes, warehouse operations, and technology implementation, with the confidence to drive a complex site into successful live operations.
  • Retail experience is highly relevant, especially where the project involves customer order fulfilment, inventory accuracy, and service continuity.
