Your Opportunity

The Project Manager is responsible for leading the project teams on a range of small to large water and/or wastewater treatment facility projects. You may be involved in various aspects of a project from planning phase through design, construction, and commissioning. As a Project Manager, you should also possess a high level of technical specialization and be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project. Responsibilities may include calculations, field work, coordination of tasks and personnel, and mentoring junior staff. Projects assigned may have complex features that will require the application of mature knowledge and experience. You will lead the analysis of proposed projects to promote reliability, resource efficiency, and cost‑effectiveness.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead or participate in the design and oversee construction of water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, water reservoirs, and conduct treatability and feasibility studies.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the project, managing existing client relationships and leading coordination meetings with internal team members, external consultants, owners, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Provide project leadership for water and wastewater treatment process and/or process mechanical facility projects, including guidance and mentoring to project staff.
  • Supervise staff, setting priorities, budgets, and schedules for their work.
  • Lead and/or participate in functional and detailed design of W/WW projects, including process, treatment, and conveyance elements.
  • Coordinate water and wastewater treatment project construction documents, including contract drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Review and conduct technical analyses and calculations as part of a design team on W/WW projects.
  • Evaluate, select, and specify engineered water and wastewater treatment systems or products for a project.
  • Conduct alternative analyses to support business case evaluations for project decisions.
  • Manage or support financial aspects of projects, including budget monitoring, invoicing, generating invoice support materials, estimating completion costs, and following up on accounts receivable.
  • Interface directly with clients and management regarding project scope, schedule, and budget status.
  • Coordinate and participate in constructability reviews.
  • Oversee and review quality assurance and control on managed projects and peer projects.
  • Stay current on regulatory policy and rule changes; establish working relationships with regulatory officials.
  • Lead or participate in proposal preparation, developing project scope, budgets, design approaches, and supporting client interviews and negotiations.
  • Take an active role in marketing and business development for potential water and wastewater treatment projects.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated skills for efficient project management/technical leadership of multiple concurrent projects.
  • Understanding of client expectations, budgeting, proposal writing, and producing high‑quality deliverables.
  • Strong working knowledge of water/wastewater movement and treatment, and various design and construction methods.
  • In‑depth knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes, hydraulics, process mechanical, regulatory compliances, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and applying relevant design and construction codes.
  • Strong grasp of project document production phases and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to lead design teams and technicians, ensuring contract compliance and rigid cost control within budget restraints.
  • Advanced understanding of water and wastewater treatment engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment without direct supervision.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to obtain licensure within 12 months.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in water and wastewater treatment infrastructure related fields.

Typical work environment includes office work at a desk for long periods and field work that may expose you to inclement weather.
