Job Duties/Scope Of Work

Hanford Mission Integration Solutions (HMIS) is seeking a detail-oriented individual to join the One Hanford Integrated Services team to support Hanford's compliance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the Privacy Act (PA). This position will allow the candidate to demonstrate expertise in processing public information requests, drafting correspondence, and clarifying request parameters, as well as additional relevant tasks. This position supports the Hanford Field Office (HFO) and prime contractors, including Bechtel National, Inc., Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure, LLC, Central Plateau Cleanup Company, Navarro-ATL, and Inomedic Health Applications, as well as legacy contractors at the Hanford Site. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and log incoming FOIA and PA requests against defined set of rules.
  • Work with contractors and HFO points of contact and/or document holders to gather potentially responsive documents.
  • Review documents to determine whether responsive and complete.
  • Determine whether exemptions apply to records and redact any non-releasable portions.
  • Redact documents using Adobe or review appropriateness of redactions others make.
  • Quality check/review all products before submitting for legal review and signature.
  • Draft response letters.
  • Provide weekly reports on the status of responses to requests.
  • Stay current on FOIA and PA regulations, records management standards and other federal policies that impact these responsibilities.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned under established guidelines.

Basic Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree plus 5 years of experience in records management, public administration, communications or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience reviewing and redacting records.
  • Must be proficient in database operations, word processing systems, and the use of Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce consistently high-quality work under fluid conditions.
  • Strong organizational, clerical and customer service skills.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
