Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Property Accountant to join our growing finance team. This role is responsible for full-cycle property accounting across a diverse portfolio of residential assets, manufactured housing. The ideal candidate brings deep GAAP expertise, hands‑on Yardi experience, and a forward‑thinking mindset that embraces AI‑driven tools to drive efficiency and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

Property Accounting

  • Maintain complete and accurate general ledgers for an assigned portfolio of properties.
  • Record journal entries, reconcile accounts, and manage accruals in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, variance analyses, and supporting schedules.
  • Process/review accounts payable and receivable transactions, including tenant ledgers.
  • Assist with annual budgets and reforecasts; track budget-to-actual variances and escalate material discrepancies.

Month‑End Close

  • Execute a timely and complete month‑end close process, meeting all internal and external deadlines.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
  • Coordinate with regional managers to review operating results and resolve coding or classification issues.
  • Maintain and improve the close calendar; document procedures to ensure consistency and scalability.
  • Support quarterly and year‑end close activities, including preparation of audit work papers and schedules.

Yardi Software Administration

  • Perform day‑to‑day accounting operations within Yardi Voyager
  • Generate financial reports, custom queries, and data exports from Yardi to support analysis and reporting.
  • Set up and maintain property, entity, and chart‑of‑accounts configurations in Yardi.
  • Troubleshoot Yardi data integrity issues and coordinate with IT or the Yardi support team for resolution.
  • Train team members on Yardi best practices and assist with system upgrades or module implementations.

AI & Emerging Technology

  • Leverage AI‑powered accounting tools (e.g., AI‑assisted coding, anomaly detection, automated reconciliations) to streamline workflows.
  • Identify manual, repetitive processes and collaborate with technology teams to implement AI or automation solutions.
  • Maintain data quality standards that support reliable AI‑driven analytics and financial forecasting.
  • Stay current on emerging PropTech and FinTech innovations relevant to real estate accounting.
  • Participate in the evaluation and piloting of new AI tools; document outcomes and share learnings with the broader team.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • 5+ years of property accounting or real estate accounting experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP
  • Proficiency in Yardi Voyager
  • Demonstrated experience completing month‑end close independently and within tight deadlines.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, complex formulas).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with AI accounting platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Anthropic, etc).
  • Background in manufactured housing, multifamily, or mixed‑use portfolios.
  • Prior involvement in ERP system implementations or automation/AI pilot projects.
