About the role
GAI is seeking a highly skilled QA/QC Protection & Control Engineer to lead the quality assurance and quality control processes for protection and control systems in high-voltage substations. This important role ensures that all designs meet regulatory standards, project specifications, and industry best practices. We prioritize work-life balance and offer a flexible work environment, including options for hybrid or fully remote work. Candidates can be based in Overland Park, KS, Pittsburgh, PA, Lisle, IL, Orlando, FL, or work from anywhere in a remote capacity.
Responsibilities: • Conduct QA/QC reviews of engineering designs for protection and control systems in transmission and distribution substations, typically from 69kV to 500kV. • Review protection schemes including one-line and three-line diagrams, control schematics, and wiring diagrams. • Ensure compatibility of protection and control drawings with substation design layouts. • QA/QC control and relay panel layouts and associated specifications. • Verify design specifications, including the overall bill of materials. • Assess the design and sizing of auxiliary systems such as AC/DC load centers, batteries, and chargers. • Evaluate the design and sizing of conduit, cables, and backup generators. • Guide junior engineers in their designs, ensuring compliance with client standards and identifying protection gaps. • Document all QA/QC reviews, maintain records, and effectively communicate findings to the team.
Qualifications: • Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience. • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field. • Driver's License required; Professional Engineer (P.E.) License preferred but not mandatory.
Skills: • Strong understanding of engineering principles and best practices, especially in protection and control systems. • Ability to assess designs and develop project documents to ensure quality assurance. • Excellent project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting. • Effective communication skills to engage with both technical and non-technical audiences.
