Job Summary
The quality engineering manager ensures that products, materials, and services supplied by external vendors meet specific quality standards and requirements. This role maintains overall product quality, improves supplier performance, and fosters strong supplier relationships.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Evaluate, select, and qualify suppliers based on quality systems, capabilities, and performance.
- Conduct supplier audits to ensure compliance with relevant standards.
- Maintain Approved Supplier List (ASL) with up-to-date quality and performance metrics.
- Develop and implement inspection criteria for incoming HVAC components, sheet metal, electrical parts, piping, and assemblies.
- Investigate non-conforming materials and work with suppliers on corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Ensure traceability and documentation of all incoming materials and components.
- Partner with engineering to review supplier drawings, specifications, and tolerances for manufacturability and quality.
- Lead root cause analysis for supplier-related quality issues and track corrective actions to closure.
- Drive supplier process improvements to reduce defects, improve delivery, and lower costs.
- Ensure supplier products meet all applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain records of quality reports, audits, and supplier performance reviews.
- Serve as a technical liaison between the company and supplier to ensure requirements are understood and met.
- Develop and implement supplier quality management plans, including setting expectations, requirements, and performance targets.
- Collaborate with suppliers to address quality issues, implement corrective actions, and provide guidance for improving their quality systems and processes.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality Engineering, or related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in supplier quality, preferably in HVAC, modular construction, or manufacturing environments.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
