The Position
A healthier future drives us to innovate, fostering science through an environment where researchers have maximum time for innovation. As an R&D Data Engineer (m/f/d), you will play a central role in our digitalization team to technically implement the vision of a seamless digital laboratory. You will shape the data lifecycle from extraction from legacy systems, through semantic structuring, to visual preparation. Through your focus on automated data flows, you will make a decisive contribution to completing the transformation towards a highly efficient, data-driven research environment.
What to expect in the role
- As part of the Core Lab Digitalization team, you will help shape the data-driven vision. Through targeted coaching and "Organizational Storytelling", you will inspire the organization for data-driven ways of working. With existing domain knowledge, ideally in the area of CLD and Diagnostics, you can quickly transfer requirements into solutions.
- In collaboration with IT and central units, you will define semantic standards and data models in line with Roche's Digital Strategy to ensure that laboratory information flows precisely, standardized, and securely into our cloud infrastructure.
- You will participate in the functional further development and ensure that the existing software delivers exactly what research needs for the next breakthroughs. You will identify and extract valuable data sets and link raw data with its scientific context to form the basis for simulations and AI.
- You will design intuitive dashboards with BI software for self-service analyses and transform laboratory processes after analysis through consistent automation, in order to minimize friction and solve technological hurdles directly where the data originates.
- You will prepare complex technical issues in such a way that they serve as a basis for management decisions. You will confidently present your progress and concepts in expert committees and drive your projects to success independently.
Who you are
- You have successfully completed a degree (Master/Diploma) in Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Computer Science, or a comparable technical/scientific field.
- You are proficient in programming languages such as Python and databases such as SQL, especially for parsing complex log files and automating data pipelines.
- You have sound experience working with modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Data Lakes) and business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau).
- You have an understanding of UX design and data integrity; knowledge of Machine Learning or Generative AI rounds off your profile.
- You have experience in analytics or system development and the ability to quickly understand complex scientific issues.
- You have experience in leading technical projects and are proficient in using agile methods and tools (Scrum, Kanban, Jira).
- Working according to best practices is a matter of course for you.
- You are a highly communicative "data role model" with diplomatic skill.
- You are a team player with deep data engineering expertise and a broad interest in understanding and optimizing end-to-end laboratory processes (value streams).
- You are motivated to take on complex additional tasks independently and have the diplomatic skill to positively convey technical concepts and changes and to inspire stakeholders across hierarchical levels.
- You have fluent German and English language skills, both written and spoken.
This position is limited to 18 months.
