Next Ventures are currently working with a global engineering and technology business looking to hire an R&D Project Manager to lead complex development projects within mechanical/plant engineering.
This role would suit someone who enjoys taking ownership of projects from early concept through to delivery, while coordinating multidisciplinary teams and balancing both the technical and commercial aspects of development.
Role
You’ll be responsible for leading technically challenging development projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The position involves working closely with engineering teams as well as external partners and suppliers.
Key responsibilities
- Managing complex development projects within a mechanical engineering environment
- Supporting and initiating technical feasibility studies (including hardware/software interfaces)
- Evaluating components for reuse and broader application potential
- Planning project resources, budgets, milestones, and timelines
- Monitoring risks, costs, and overall project performance
- Coordinating external suppliers and development partners
- Providing technical leadership to cross-functional project teams
What they’re looking for
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Several years’ experience managing development projects in mechanical or plant engineering
- Good understanding of design processes and technical interfaces
- Ideally some exposure to automation or embedded systems
- Experience with budget planning and project controlling
- Strong organisational and leadership skills
- Fluent German and English
