At Cardinal Health, we take pride in our Information Technology department, which plays a vital role in developing and delivering effective computing and information services. Our Release Management team ensures software delivery is seamless, well-coordinated, and high-quality, enabling us to respond to changing business needs efficiently. We are seeking a Release Engineer to spearhead release management activities linked to our critical warehouse transformation projects on Program Motion.
In this pivotal role, you will oversee the entire release process from planning to execution across multiple teams and environments. You will ensure that all aspects of the release are connected, risks are managed, and stakeholders are well-informed, supporting informed and timely decisions.
You will collaborate closely with Solution Owners, Agile Facilitators, Engineering, Testing, Ops Tech, and Cutover Leads to align our release strategies with deployment goals. As the scope of your responsibilities may expand over time, you might also lead release management across the broader Pharma Supply Chain IT landscape, ensuring scalability and consistency.
Our ideal candidate embraces innovative AI strategies to enhance analytics, optimize artifact generation, and improve delivery reliability, while demonstrating strong expertise in DevOps, CI/CD, and version control methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate and lead essential management ceremonies, including release planning, readiness reviews, and post-release communications.
- Create and maintain a synchronized release calendar to ensure cohesive alignment among teams and business priorities.
- Work with cross-functional teams to coordinate the scope, sequencing, dependencies, and timelines of releases.
- Partner with the Cutover Lead to synchronize release plans with strategies, including mock cutovers and go-live windows.
- Provide necessary inputs to assess readiness for cutovers, supporting governance and execution plans.
- Collaborate with other Release Managers to align on shared dependencies and facilitate seamless cross-application releases.
- Utilize advanced versioning strategies aligned with GitHub workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
- Identify and manage risks, issues, and dependencies using detailed documentation and proactive strategies.
- Deliver clear and effective communication regarding release status and impacts to diverse stakeholders.
- Leverage AI tools to enhance data insights related to delivery metrics and improve decision-making.
- Continuously seek to enhance release processes through automation and the application of best practices.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in Release Engineering or Release Management within Agile and DevOps environments.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Strong proficiency with Jira and Confluence for effective planning and tracking.
- Demonstrated success in employing DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and version control systems.
- Experience in cloud-based and enterprise-scale engineering systems.
- Ability to leverage AI techniques for release analysis and risk management.
- Exceptional communication skills to convey complex technical details clearly.
- Ability to thrive in cross-functional and geographically diverse teams.
