Our client, a leader in sustainable agriculture solutions, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Remote Agricultural Scientist specializing in Soil Health. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative farming practices from the comfort of your home, supporting agricultural projects across various regions. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing strategies to improve soil fertility, nutrient management, and overall soil health, directly impacting crop yield and environmental sustainability. This is a fully remote position based out of Lokoja, Kogi, NG, offering flexibility and the chance to make a significant impact on the future of agriculture.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on soil composition, structure, and health using remote sensing data and laboratory reports.
  • Develop and recommend advanced soil management techniques, including cover cropping, crop rotation, and organic amendments, tailored to diverse agro-ecological zones.
  • Design and oversee field trials and experiments to evaluate the efficacy of new soil health products and practices.
  • Provide expert advice and technical support to farmers, agronomists, and agricultural stakeholders via virtual consultations and detailed reports.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, assess soil degradation risks, and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team of scientists, engineers, and field operatives to integrate soil health initiatives into broader agricultural programs.
  • Stay abreast of the latest scientific advancements, regulatory changes, and best practices in soil science and sustainable agriculture.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, scientific papers, and presentations on research findings and recommendations.
  • Develop educational materials and training modules for farmers and agricultural extension workers on soil health management.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative digital tools for soil health monitoring and decision support.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Soil Science, Agronomy, Agricultural Science, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in agricultural research, with a strong focus on soil health.
  • Proven experience in experimental design, data analysis (statistical software proficiency required), and interpretation of soil-related data.
  • Familiarity with remote sensing technologies and GIS applications in agriculture is a significant advantage.
  • Excellent understanding of soil chemistry, physics, biology, and microbiology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage projects effectively in a remote setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific information clearly and concisely.
