About the role

About

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Remote Chemical Process Development Engineer to join our innovative team. This role is crucial for designing, optimizing, and scaling up chemical processes from laboratory to pilot and commercial production, all within a fully remote work environment. You will be instrumental in developing efficient, safe, and cost-effective manufacturing processes for novel chemical compounds and materials. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in chemical engineering principles, extensive experience in process simulation and scale‑up, and a proven ability to work independently and collaboratively across distributed teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new chemical processes, focusing on efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
  • Optimize existing chemical processes to improve yield, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact.
  • Conduct process simulations and modeling using industry‑standard software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS).
  • Develop and execute experimental plans for process validation at laboratory and pilot scales.
  • Analyze experimental data to identify critical process parameters and establish operating windows.
  • Prepare detailed process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and mass and energy balances.
  • Specify process equipment and instrumentation requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with research chemists, analytical chemists, and engineers to ensure seamless technology transfer.
  • Troubleshoot process issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Author comprehensive process development reports and technical documentation.
  • Ensure all process designs comply with relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Effectively communicate project progress, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders via virtual meetings and written reports.

Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in chemical process development, scale‑up, and optimization.
  • Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS).
  • Strong understanding of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and separation processes.
  • Experience with laboratory and pilot plant operations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage projects effectively in a remote setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
  • Experience with GMP environments and regulatory requirements is a plus.
  • Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive compensation package.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking chemical innovation from the comfort of your home office.
  • Chance to shape the future of chemical manufacturing.
