Our client, a pioneering chemical research and development firm, is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Remote Lead Process Development Chemist. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to drive critical advancements in chemical process development from your own laboratory or dedicated workspace. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with a strong focus on process development, scale-up, and optimization within the pharmaceutical or specialty chemicals industry. You will be responsible for leading a team of chemists and engineers in the design, execution, and optimization of chemical synthesis routes and manufacturing processes. Key responsibilities include developing robust, scalable, and cost-effective chemical processes, troubleshooting complex reaction challenges, performing process hazard analyses, and ensuring compliance with stringent quality and regulatory standards (e.g., cGMP). You will play a pivotal role in translating laboratory-scale discoveries into viable commercial-scale production methods. This requires a deep understanding of reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, mass transfer, and separation technologies. The ability to design and interpret experimental plans, analyze data using statistical methods, and communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences is essential. Responsibilities
- Lead the development and optimization of chemical processes from laboratory to pilot scale.
- Design and execute experiments to improve yield, purity, and efficiency of synthesis routes.
- Perform process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement safety protocols.
- Scale-up chemical processes ensuring robustness and reproducibility.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex chemical reaction and processing issues.
- Develop and validate analytical methods for process monitoring and control.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth technology transfer.
- Mentor and guide junior chemists and engineers in process development activities.
- Author technical reports, patents, and regulatory submissions.
- Stay current with advancements in process chemistry and chemical engineering.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Chemistry (Organic, Physical, Analytical) or Chemical Engineering.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in process development and scale-up, preferably in the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
- Demonstrated experience leading research and development teams.
- Expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and reaction optimization techniques.
- Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles (thermodynamics, kinetics, mass transfer).
- Proficiency with analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, GC, NMR, MS).
- Experience with process safety assessments and hazard analysis.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively in a remote setting.
