About the role
Our client is seeking a highly innovative and skilled Remote Mechanical Design Engineer to join their product development team. This is a fully remote position, enabling you to contribute to groundbreaking projects from any location. You will be instrumental in the conceptualization, design, and development of new mechanical systems and products. This role requires a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, proficiency in CAD software, and a deep understanding of materials science and manufacturing processes. You will be responsible for creating detailed 3D models, performing simulations (FEA, CFD), generating manufacturing drawings, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, and product managers, to bring designs from concept to production. The ideal candidate is a creative problem-solver with a passion for innovation and a proven track record of successfully delivering complex mechanical designs.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the mechanical design process for new product development projects from concept through to manufacturing. Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and technical drawings using industry-standard software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor). Perform engineering analysis, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), to validate designs and optimize performance. Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, CNC machining, 3D printing) for components and assemblies. Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate mechanical and electronic components seamlessly. Work closely with software engineers to ensure mechanical designs support embedded systems and user interfaces. Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Bills of Processes (BOPs). Support prototyping efforts and conduct testing to validate designs and identify potential issues. Document design decisions, analysis results, and testing outcomes thoroughly. Liaise with manufacturing partners to ensure designs are producible, cost-effective, and meet quality standards. Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical design issues that arise during development and production phases. Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in mechanical design and product development. Contribute to product strategy and roadmap discussions with product management. Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. A Master's degree is a plus. A minimum of 5-8 years of professional experience in mechanical design and product development. Expert proficiency in at least one major 3D CAD software package (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA). Strong experience with engineering simulation tools (FEA, CFD). Solid understanding of materials science, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mechanics of materials. Knowledge of various manufacturing processes and their applications. Experience with mechatronics and electromechanical systems is highly desirable. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly in a remote environment. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Self-motivated and able to work effectively independently with minimal supervision. Experience in the consumer electronics or industrial equipment sector is preferred. This remote engineering role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of innovative products.
