Remote Node.js API Developer

Job Summary

Houston Skilled Consultancy is looking for a talented and experienced Remote Node.js API Developer with a strong focus on Microservices architecture to join our fast-growing global team. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs, working with distributed systems, and deploying scalable backend services using Node.js. This is a fully remote role ideal for proactive professionals eager to build high‑performance APIs in a cloud‑first environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure RESTful APIs using Node.js.
• Develop and maintain backend microservices that integrate with various third‑party systems and internal services.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including frontend developers, DevOps engineers, and product managers to deliver high‑quality solutions.
• Write clean, efficient, and testable code with proper documentation.
• Monitor and optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve API and server‑side issues quickly and efficiently.
• Participate in code reviews, contribute to technical documentation, and share best practices within the team.
• Continuously research and apply new technologies, tools, and design patterns.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Proficiency in Node.js and JavaScript (ES6+), with experience in building RESTful APIs and server‑side applications.
• Strong understanding and practical experience with Microservices architecture and API Gateway patterns.
• Familiarity with Express.js, NestJS, or similar Node.js frameworks.
• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, or similar container orchestration tools is highly desirable.
• Hands‑on experience with NoSQL and SQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Experience with authentication and authorization protocols such as OAuth2, JWT, etc.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (e.g., Git), and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.

Experience

• Minimum of 3+ years of professional experience in backend development with Node.js.
• Proven track record of delivering production‑grade microservices‑based applications.
• Experience in a remote/distributed team environment is a plus.

Working Hours

• Flexible working hours with core collaboration time aligned to GMT/IST.
• Must be available for occasional team meetings and sprint planning sessions.
