Remote Shopify Backend Developer (m/w/d) – E-Commerce & Next-Level-Developement

Nature Heart is a growing premium brand for high-quality dietary supplements, food, and natural cosmetics. Our claim is natural products, honest branding, and a technically sound online presence. We are looking for a Backend Developer to advance our Shopify store to the next level – from structured data and performant templates to the integration of smart tools.

Responsibilities

• Development and maintenance of custom Shopify Apps and backend logic via Shopify APIs (Admin, Storefront, Functions)
• Theme development on Liquid/JSON template level – no page builder clickery
• Design and implementation of metafield architectures (custom namespaces, typed metafields) and their integration into Liquid templates
• Building and maintaining structured data (Schema.org/JSON-LD) for SEO and machine readability
• Connection and troubleshooting of third-party systems (tracking, consent management, review tools, payment)
• Performance optimization, debugging, and technical audits of existing stores
• Clean work with Git (branching, PRs, code reviews) within the existing development team
• Use of AI tools for product data enrichment and content structuring – as a tool, not an end in itself

Requirements

• E-commerce with passion – this should be a given.
• Pragmatic, self-reliant, and remote-experienced – you work independently and reach out when something is stuck.
• You think in clean code, not workarounds.
• You think in quality: tests, guardrails, logging, and monitoring – not trial & error in the production system.
• Several years of experience with Shopify – whether in Liquid, theme architecture, or via APIs. Ecosystem understanding is mandatory.
• Solid knowledge of JavaScript/Node.js.
• Confident handling of data structures, APIs, webhooks, and robust error handling.
• Experience with structured data (Schema.org/JSON-LD).
• Git-based workflows (branching, PRs, code reviews).
• Independent work in remote setups.
• Team language German – it needs to be fluent here.
• Plus points: Shopify Functions, Checkout Extensibility, Hydrogen/Oxygen, experience with LLMs/AI APIs, SEO technical understanding, analytics/tracking tools, or Python.
