About the role
Darker Than Blue Grille is a Baltimore-based restaurant focused on delivering great food, strong hospitality, and a well-run operation behind the scenes. We’re looking for a Restaurant Accountant to manage the day-to-day accounting workflow and deliver accurate, timely reporting that supports smart decisions.
What You’ll Do
Daily/Weekly Accounting & Controls
- Reconcile daily sales (POS, credit cards, cash, gift cards, third-party delivery)
- Verify deposits and investigate variances (over/short, chargebacks, missing receipts)
- Maintain chart of accounts and accurate coding of transactions
- Support strong internal controls for cash handling and purchasing
Accounts Payable & Vendor Management
- Process vendor invoices, match to receiving/purchase records, and schedule payments
- Maintain vendor files (W-9s, COIs if applicable) and resolve billing discrepancies
- Track recurring bills and ensure timely payments
Payroll, Tips & Labor Reporting
- Coordinate payroll processing (in-house or with a provider)
- Support tip reporting compliance (cash tips, credit card tips, tip-outs)
- Produce labor cost reporting (FOH/BOH, overtime, staffing trends)
Inventory & Cost of Goods (COGS)
- Support inventory counts (food, beverage, alcohol) and reconcile to usage
- Track COGS and help identify waste, variance, and margin opportunities
- Assist with recipe costing and menu margin analysis as needed
Month-End Close & Reporting
- Prepare month-end close: reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and schedules
- Produce weekly/monthly financial reporting (P&L, COGS, labor %, prime cost)
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and operational KPIs
Compliance & Tax Support
- Assist with sales tax filings and required local/state reporting
- Maintain organized documentation for audits and year-end tax preparation
- Coordinate with CPA/bookkeeper as needed
What We’re Looking For
Required
- 2+ years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, ideally in restaurants/hospitality
- Strong understanding of restaurant sales reconciliation, COGS, and labor reporting
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online or similar)
- Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills (pivot tables, lookups, reporting)
- High attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality
Preferred
- Experience with POS systems (e.g., Toast, Square, Clover, etc.)
- Experience with inventory tools (e.g., MarginEdge, MarketMan, or similar)
- Familiarity with Maryland sales tax processes and hospitality payroll/tip compliance
- Ability to streamline systems, build templates, and improve reporting workflows
Schedule & Work Environment
- Primarily weekday hours; occasional on-site support may be needed around month-end or inventory counts
- On-site in Baltimore; hybrid flexibility may be available after onboarding

Pay: $82,079.18 - $114,762.02 per year
