About the Role

Working under the supervision of an experienced team member, the successful candidate will support the design, build, and operation of Offshore Designs’ robotic systems and marine projects.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support mechanical design and integration of robotic systems
  • Create fabrication and assembly drawings using SolidWorks
  • Design for manufacturability and rapid prototyping (including 3D printing)
  • Assist with assembly, integration, and testing of robotic systems
  • Operate hull cleaning robots and handheld ROVs during field deployments
  • Support integration and field testing of sensors and instrumentation
  • Perform maintenance and repair of equipment
  • Support fabrication, assembly, and deployment of marine systems

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in an engineering or technologist program
  • Experience with SolidWorks
  • Strong hands-on mechanical skills (assembly, tools, fabrication)
  • Working understanding of electrical systems, sensors, and basic control concepts
  • Ability to troubleshoot electro-mechanical systems in real-world conditions
  • Willingness to perform field work in marine environments
  • Canadian Citizen/Permanent Resident
  • Valid British Columbia Class 5 Driver’s license or equivalent

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience with robotics, ROVs, or marine systems
  • Familiarity with BlueOS, ArduSub, or similar
  • Experience integrating sensors, motors, or embedded systems
  • Experience with basic website design and content creation

Role Details

  • Location: Southern Vancouver Island (Victoria/Cowichan Valley)
  • ~30–70% field vs. office work, depending on project
  • Hybrid work arrangement (case-by-case)
  • Start date: May 2026 (flexible)
