About

Rust Backend Software Engineer is required by a startup building privacy preserving software for sovereign individuals and institutions. In a digital world where data collection is the default, the company believes end-to-end encryption and other privacy preserving techniques are no longer optional. They recently closed a massive seed round with $18 million raised and planning to expand significantly to support multiple new product lines. They are looking for a Backend Engineer with experience building and operating high-throughput, scalable backend systems. You should be comfortable building systems from 0 to 1, have strong, well-reasoned opinions on architectural decisions, and have a track record of ensuring system reliability and uptime. Bonus points if you have experience with end-to-end encryption, cryptography, or privacy-preserving systems.

Requirements

• Strong Computer Science or other STEM degree from a top university
• 3+ years of experience building and operating high-throughput, distributed backend systems at scale preferably with Rust, C, or Go
• Experience building and scaling high-reliability, distributed backend systems.
• Experience building and maintaining core infrastructure from scratch (zero to one) is preferred.
• Experience at a fast-growing, early-stage (Seed-B) startup.
• Experience with privacy-tech, cryptography, or messaging platforms (especially with E2E encryption) is nice to have

What you'll do:

• Design, build, and scale high-performance, fault-tolerant backend services.
• Take ownership of company’s large-scale, multi-tenant distributed systems, driving correctness and reliability.
• Work closely with mobile and frontend teams to own and maintain the client SDK, defining resilient API boundaries.
• Build durable and highly available data storage and caching layers using technologies like PostgreSQL, Redis, and NATS.
• Lead the development of core enterprise features like SSO, SCIM provisioning, and secure data import systems.
• Partner with security and infrastructure teams to harden production systems and support our threat model.
