SaaS Product Manager - Volunteer
NEXPLUMB
About the role
Company Description ⚠ Read This First This is a 100% voluntary, unpaid role. No financial compensation. No stipend. No equity at this stage. If you are job hunting for paid work, this opportunity is not for you; we genuinely respect that. This role is for a product thinker who wants to practice their craft on a real product, contribute to a startup from the ground floor, and earn an official certificate of contribution Nexplumb is a tech startup building a platform to modernise and bring structure to the plumbing industry. We are in active development; which means decisions being made right now will define what this product becomes. We need a volunteer Product Manager who can bring clarity to our thinking, structure to our process, and substance to our direction. Not someone to rubber-stamp decisions; someone to challenge them, refine them, and back every recommendation with reasoning. If you have real PM instincts and want to put them to work on a product that is still being shaped — this is that opportunity.
The One Thing That Defines This Role We do not want opinions without foundations. Every suggestion, recommendation, or direction you bring must come with a clear "why." Why this feature over that one. Why this prioritisation. Why this user flow. Why now and not later. We are building in an industry we are working to understand deeply and we need a Product Manager who can find clarity in ambiguity and help us see the path forward, not just name it. If your natural instinct is to think out loud without anchoring your reasoning, this role will frustrate both of us. If your instinct is to dig, question, validate, and explain — you belong here. Hard Requirements — You Must Bring These 1. Real product management experience — you have shipped or significantly contributed to a digital product 2. Structured, evidence-backed thinking — your suggestions always come with a "why" and you can articulate it clearly 3. Comfort with ambiguity — you can find direction when things are unclear and turn fog into a path 4. Strong written communication — you can write a brief, a spec, or a decision doc that others can actually act on 5. Ability to ask sharp questions — you challenge assumptions before accepting them 6. Collaborative without being passive — you work with the team but you are not afraid to push back with logic 7. Self-directed — you do not need to be managed into doing the work 8. Portfolio or case studies you can share — something that shows how you think, not just what you did. What We Offer Official Certificate Formal Nexplumb PM contribution certificate on completion Founding Exposure Shape a product from its earliest stage — real decisions, real impact
Portfolio Case Study A real, named startup you can reference in future roles
Sharpen Your Craft Practice discovery, prioritisation, and strategy on a live product Founder Access Direct collaboration with the founding team — no layers, no politics Ground Floor Entry Be part of the story from chapter one
The PM We Are Looking For: You have done the work before. You know what a good product requirement looks like. You've sat in rooms where decisions were made without enough information — and you were the one who asked the question nobody else thought to ask. You think in problems before solutions. You are thorough, but you know when to move. You volunteer here because you want to stay sharp, contribute to something real, and add a meaningful chapter to your story. You don't need telling what to do — you show up with a perspective and the reasoning to back it. Please Do Not Apply If: ❌ You have never worked on a digital product in any meaningful PM capacity ❌ You make suggestions without being able to explain why — clearly and specifically ❌ You are looking for a paid role and treating this as a placeholder ❌ You need to be chased, prompted, or managed into delivering ❌You cannot handle pushback on your ideas — good product work requires debate ❌ You cannot share any examples of how you have thought ❌ You want a title more than you want to do the act <
